Church of Urnes
The picture was taken when I and my wife Jette visited Urnes in western Norway in 1993.

The church of Urnes is the most important historical attraction of the area. It was built early in 1100 and is the oldest wooden church in Norway. The church is included on Unesco's World Heritage List.

The wood carvings of the northern portal have given name to one of the last styles of viking art: The Urnes style.
