The original buckle was found on Lindholm Høje
near Aalborg.The jewellery is datet to about the 11. centuries.
The buckle is typical of the Urnes style which belongs to the last
phase of Viking art. The Urnes style takes its name from the
woodcarvings at the little church of Urnes in western Norway. The
buckle portrays a slender animal surrounded by a snake. This
motive was alsow used in the early christian decorations and the
symbol is ment to be the good fighting against the evil.
